Pauline - The Boss

With 20 years physiotherapy experience under her belt Pauline created Zest Physiotherapy in 2015. Professional experience of working in the USA, Norway and Central Europe and personal experience of poor health, and the need to juggle work around raising 3 boys, spurred Pauline on to create a friendly, convenient home visiting service that worked in a flexible way to suit clients and therapists alike.
“In the beginning it was just me and my vision for a different way of working. I wanted to able to spend more time with my clients using all of my physiotherapy skills and help clients be more proactive about their long term conditions. I give my clients the confidence to gain control, be more positive, and stick to a plan consistently to get the results they want. It is this, essential element that I call Zest”.
“As Zest Physiotherapy’s excellent reputation has spread, and the practise has grown. I have been lucky enough to find other like-minded friendly and enthusiastic therapists from a variety of professions to work alongside me in my mission to bring the Element of Zest to our clients”.
The truth is I’m not really ‘The Boss’ though. All of our team are self-employed therapists who have come together with a shared vision to offer a unique package within private healthcare at home. This way of working gives us all the flexibility and the freedom to freely use our skills to help our clients.
Pauline is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP), Health Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist (HCPC), Member of Agile (Chartered Physiotherapists working with Older People), and member of Physio First (The Organisation of Chartered Physiotherapists in Private Practice (OCPPP).

Marcelle - The Sorter-Outerer

Marcelle is most likely to be the first person you speak to you when you call us here at Zest. As Pauline’s personal assistant, or fixer of stuff, Marcelle will be the person who sorts out your appointments with our therapists and keeps us all knowing where we should be and when.
Marcelle has experience of running her own business for 14 years. “Running my own business, I had to be very organised. This helps hugely with planning the calendar of appointments for all nine therapists and making sure everything runs smoothly”. “I really enjoy chatting to people and forming connections and I’m driven to help people as much as possible”.

Georgie - Associate Physiotherapist

Georgie joined the team in 2019 bringing with her considerable experience as a neuromuskuloskeletal specialist which for those not in the know means she really knows her stuff when it comes to nerves, muscles and the skeleton and how these all interact. Georgie also brings acupuncture skills to the team which we are excited to be able to offer for the treatment of pain and muscle spasm. Georgie enjoys working with clients before and after orthopaedic surgery and with older clients who have functional rehabilitation goals.
Qualified in 2001, Georgie has worked in the NHS, private practice and for the military and was deployed on operational tour to Iraq in 2005.
Georgie enjoys the flexibility of her work with Zest and being able to work around hectic family life with 3 young children. “I like that I have a good amount of time with the Zest clients to thoroughly assess them and properly get to know them. I like that I can see clients make progress each session towards achieving their goals”.

Georgie is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP), Health Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist (HCPC) & Member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).

Ruth - Associate Dietitian

Ruth also joined the team in 2019 to help steer the new dietitian consultancy services for our care homes in Devon.
Ruth has worked as a dietitian for over 10 years and has a wide range of experience including in gastroenterology, renal, elderly care, oncology, neurology and respiratory. “As older people can suffer from many complex health issues my clinical experience will allow me to care for the care home residents taking into account their individual needs”. As well as clinical experience in the NHS, Ruth has worked in hospitals in Australia, in research, as well as with businesses and at food festivals as part of her private work.
“At the heart of my dietetic practice is a love of food and nutrition and of sharing this passion with others in an evidenced based and unbiased way. This enables individuals to make the best dietary decisions they can according to their own beliefs and preferences. Good nutrition should nourish the mind as well as the body, meaning that food should be an enjoyable part of a person’s life not just for health and sustenance”.
Ruth’s specialist areas are working with Mums who are pregnant or have young infants, as well as gastroenterology especially IBS. “I also hate to see people suffering from malnutrition, which should not be as common here in the UK as it is, especially in the elderly population, and with simple tips and advice this can often be prevented”.
Ruth is a registered dietitian with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a member of the BDA (British Dietetic Association). Ruth is also Chair of the BDA’s Sustainable Eating special interest group.

Scott - Associate Physiotherapist

Scott has a background of professional sports and continues to play football on a semi-professional basis. Having worked with a variety of sports team and lived in Scandinavia for 12 months seeing how they implement Physio over there, Scott has an obvious interest in sporting injuries and MSK (another pesky physiotherapy term for muscles and the skeleton, think backs, necks, knees, hips and shoulders as a rough guide).

“I am big believer of a holistic approach. As a physiotherapist I deal with human beings not just specific pathologies. A variety of social, psychological, spiritual and physical aspects need to be considered when dealing with the care of any clients”.

“My work with Zest gives me the opportunity to spend more time with clients which enables me to build a good rapport without the need of feeling rushed”.

Scott is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP), and the Health Care Professions Council registered Physiotherapist (HCPC).

Debra - Associate Dietitian

Debra is one of our Associate Dietitians and a pioneer of our new multi-professional consultancy services for care homes in Devon. Debra has over 25 years of work experience as a Dietitian having worked both in the NHS, private healthcare and for food/clinical nutrition companies. More recently Debra has been lecturing in Dietetics to undergraduates. “It is very rewarding being able to pass on my knowledge to student Dietitians. It takes me back to my student days!”

“I enjoy the varied work as a Dietitian as I get to meet so many people from different walks of life.  It’s great being able to help people improve their health and wellbeing.  Being a Freelance Dietitian has enabled me to get involved in so many different types of work which can range from group education sessions to helping people make better food choices on supermarket trips.  I can even do Skype consultations with people in faraway places across the globe!”

In her 20’s Debra had a fantastic experience travelling and working in Australia.  “I loved the outdoor lifestyle in Australia which is very much why I love living in the South West of England. We are very fortunate in being surrounded by a lovely coastline and scenic countryside”.

Debra is driven by varied and interesting work where she is constantly learning something new and she also has a specialist interest in Diabetes and Obesity.  “I like meeting new people and ensuring that my advice fits with their own personal situation.  It is satisfying being able to help others achieve their personal health goals”.

Debra is a member of the freelance dietitians group and British Dietetic Association (BDA) as well as being a Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) Registered Dietitian.

Andrea - Associate Occupational Therapist

Andrea is the first occupational therapist to join our team bringing with her 26 years of experience within Health and Social Care (so far, she’s just getting started). Andrea has worked with adults with a range of physical or mental health conditions and those with a learning disability advising on manual handling, hoist and sling assessments, wheelchair assessments, home adaptations, seating and helping people to be as independent within their own home as possible.

“I feel strongly that people are to be given the opportunity to live as well as they can, to help them find a ‘new normal’ following an illness or incident which has changed their life. I believe that individuals are often the experts in their own conditions and so I always start there to help them feel in control”.

“I have enjoyed my work with Zest making a real difference to individuals many who have not seen any change or improvement in their quality of life for a long time”
Andrea is a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) and a registered occupational therapist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Zest Physiotherapy aims to motivate older people to engage in taking positive steps to proactively improve their health and wellbeing, enabling them to maintain their Zest for life.
